MANTRA MUSIC
Audrey Causilla, with vocals, harmonium, and keyboard, bridges her background as a classical pianist with her love of mantra and chanting the sacred names of the Divine with others through Kirtan. Her Cincinnati-based kirtan ensemble, Mekala Kirtan, includes Johnny Ruzsa and Zach Mechlem, and sometimes Jim Feist and others. Audrey toured with Girish for 5 years in venues including Cleveland Yoga and Midwest Yoga Conference in Chicago in 2011, and with Kristin Luna Ray regionally, at the World Peace Yoga Jubilee in Loveland, OH and Bhaktifest in Joshua Tree, CA in 2012
What is kirtan?
Kirtan is sacred chanting in community that is most often offered in a call-and-response fashion.
When you experience kirtan, you bask in the healing energy of the music (mantra, raga and instrumental improvisation). A truly unique musical and meditative experience, kirtan quiets the mind and opens the heart, aligning our innermost Self deeply into the present moment whether one is singing or just listening to the mantra and sound. Merging Sanskrit and English mantras with melody, harmonium, keyboard, flutes and vibrant drumming, Audrey's chants encompass a range of sounds from East to West, blending moments of raga with her own evocative piano harmonies and melodies.
